Whats the difference between strep throat & tonsillitis? I can’t find a site that can explain the difference.?

All the sites that are titled "strep throat vs tonsillitis" show me both have the same symptoms, all I want to know what the difference between the two are.

If I am not mistaken tonsillitis can be known as strep throat but only when it is caused by group A strep (bacteria known as streptococcus pyogenes). Tonsillitis can also be caused by viruses, but it is specifically known as strep throat only when it is caused by strep pyogenes. I hope that helped.
