Your doctor should give you post op instructions, but here are some general guidelines:
Either cool or warm foods are acceptable. Dairy products may be taken, if desired. If the patient desires more solid food, that is also fine, although crispy or brittle foods should be avoided until healing is complete. Favorite foods include popsickles, ice cream, frozen drinks (slushees, etc.), and gatorade. Chewing gum or bubble gum encourages swallowing and saliva flow, and may even speed up the healing. Avoid acidic or citrus products such as orange juice – they burn!
any. i just got my tonsils out yesterday and i’m really into green tea and juice (soda isn’t as easy to swallow) but really you’re allowed to have anything as long as it isn’t uncomfortable for you. the day i got sent home (yesterday) they told me i could also eat whenever i was ready, just nothing spicy or difficult to swallow like chips. i’ve been sticking to pudding and soup mostly.
I had my tonsils taken out a few years ago and they told me to keep hydrated and drink lots of water. I had tons of milkshakes and smoothies. They told me not to have any red drinks because it could make you think you were bleeding. Don’t have warm foods or drinks because that can break up the scab in your throat and you can start bleeding. Try sticking to soft foods and don’t eat solid foods until like 3 days after your surgery because they don’t want you to scratch and cause pain in your throat. Try not to talk too much because that could cause some pain. That’s what I remember from when I had my tonsils out. Good luck and I hope this helps. Don’t listen to the person who said you could have warm foods. The hottest you should eat is about room tempreture.
Ask ur dr and drink whatever will not hurt ur throat.
Milkshakes are what I had. They felt nice.
my best friend just had his taken out.
he’s been living off of milkshakes and smoothies..lol
