We booked a holiday months ago, but now my husband is off work ill with a tonsil infection, can we sitll go?
We booked a holiday to visit my family in the US (for the first time in 3 years) months ago. My husband is now signed off work ill while he waitds for his toncils to be taken out. The toncil infection makes him very tired, so he cannot be at work, but he can go to visit family. He is afraid that even though the holiday has been booked for months and is during his annual leave, that work will see it as gross misconduct if he goes to visit family. The holiday is not an exausting adventure, we are just going to stay with my mom in america for a week and a half. If we cancel, we loose £800 and we don’t know when the next time we will be able to visit my family is, Should we cancel or should we go?

Do you have holiday insurance? If so, you shouldn’t be out of pocket if you cancel. Plus, airlines really don’t like ill people travelling (the air con means if any of his germs hit the system anyone else could breathe them in).
get your husband to check his HR sick policy, as long as he isnt doing any work on the holiday he should be ok to go
you should go, sick leave can not be taken from holiday leave. at most you’ll lose money for him being off but you can claim statutory sick pay while he’s off sick.
Ok by me
