You need to remember that not in all situations tonsillitis is caused by bacteria, there are some instances where is caused by other factors. The sensations you have, being thirsty, lack of appetite, lack of energy, etc is the consequence of the infection in your tonsils. You can get some relief by using Lidocaine in your mouth, which is a local anesthetic. This could help you to eat without the pain. About the antibiotic, I assume you are taking pennicilin, which is the standard in these cases. Try to go back to your doctor and ask for the injected version of the antibiotic. Its more powerfull and far more effective. Try to drink as much as you can, particularly fruit juices or similar drinks and forget colas' or other artificial stuff. I know how you feel because I also have tonsillitis and the simptoms are quite similar. You need to remember that not in all situations tonsillitis is caused by bacteria, there are some instances where is caused by other factors.

The sensations you have, being thirsty, lack of appetite, lack of energy, etc is the consequence of the infection in your tonsils.
