Tonsillitis, antibiotics needed? cloudy urine symptom?
I have tonsillitis – I really don’t want to use antibiotics as I had a dose for a different illness 2 wks ago. I am using pain killers (anti-inflammatory) and drinking loads of fluids. This morning I noticed my urine was very cloudy – could this be caused by the tonsillitis or is it a possible reaction to the pain killers?
Thanks
I am also allergic to certain penicillans and try to avoid using any of them wherever possible.

Tonsillitis is either caused by bacterial infection or by viral infection. If the cause of the tonsillitis is bacteria such as strep,
you have to take some kind of antibiotics to cure the infection.
Otherwise, rest to allow the body to heal. Fluids, especially warm (not hot), may soothe the throat. Gargle with warm salt water to ease the pain.
In rare cases(really, really rare!), tonsillitis can cause kidney problems. I hope this is not the case, but you should see a doctor to be sure.
i had that about a year ago but i was prescribed penicillin seeing how u dont take that for ur reasons im not sure what u can take….i also took tylenols for the pain.
good luck
did u try googling other anti-biotics? maybe u can have more success with that
I don’t think cloudy urine could have anything to do with tonsilitis. It could have to do with the painkillers, or it could be a urinary tract infection – coincidental?
Anyway, I would advise you to go to the doctor, and perhaps have a urine culture, because tonsilitis does need antibiotics sometimes, and so does UTI.
I hope you get well soon.
I’ve had tonsillitis a couple times, mainly because it was my own fault for not consistently taking the prescription.
However, because tonsillitis is a bacterial infection you DO need to take antibiotics (amoxicillin was what I was prescribed).
Either that or you have to get surgery and have your tonsils removed. The most common antibiotics are penicillin and amoxicillin if penicillin fails (which it did for my case), but if your allergic to penicillin, there are other drugs your doctor may prescribe. I can understand why your reluctant, but trust me, the swelling goes down after only 2 days! I can’t tell you how relieving that is to be able to swallow again.
I don’t know why you have cloudy urine, it could be because of the pain killers =/ there are a lot of causes for cloudy urine, like UTI or STDs, or maybe just drinking coffee. If it starts to burn or itch…. see a doctor!
Hope this helps! and GL!
