hey i got my tonsils out around that age, really there isnt that much pain, its something akin to a really sore throat, they drug you up a lot too so for the first day you really wont feel any pain at all. when i got mine out the procedure didnt take long, and i only spent about half the day at the center in total, (most of it was in a bed just hanging out afterwords). you wont lose much weight cause it wont last long. and truthfully, i was scared as hell when i went to get mine taken out, but really its not bad at all, good luck
Print this out and give it to your parents:
Dear parents:
Please reconsider having this done; it’s often not necessary. At least, please get another opinion from a doctor who’s more inclined toward natural remedies.
1.How much pain on scale from 1-10…..5
2.how long will it take?…less then an hour
3.how much days do i have 2 miss ou on school?depends on you and your dr.
4.about how much weight do i lose because people tell me that i will because im not going to be able to eat much…again depends on you
5.do i get any shots while im awake?i didnt they gave me mine thru thr iv..unless you count the iv ..one
6. if so will they hurt?no as long as u relax its a breeze
good luck
I got m tonsils out last year(I was 16)
it didn’t hurt that much, I’m a singer and i was able to sing a week later without any trouble.
i don’t think it took that long, the actual surgery was less than 2hrs.
i missed a week of school(mon.-fri.) because i was taking pain meds.and they made it difficult to concentrate.
I didn’t lose much weight at all, maybe a pound. you will be able to eat soft foods. the only day where i really couldn’t eat was the day i got them out.
they will give you an I.V. before you go to sleep, and it doesn’t hurt that much.
The pain isn’t too bad. Your throat will be sore, but not much more than you’ve dealt with before. The surgery will take less than an hour. You’ll likely be out of school for about a week. The first few days you’ll probably be eating mostly ice cream, jello, pudding, etc. You really shouldn’t lose much weight. They’ll put an IV into your arm to deliver all of the drugs to you that you need. So, just one quick needle. It’s not really painful. Good luck to you
Okay I have a friend who just had theirs out and they are such a baby and he is in his 50’s . But the pain is like having a sore throat like when you have a cold or you tonsils get all swollen and hurt . But you can take pain killers just like you do at home for that.
Now as far as how long if you are talking about how long will it take for them to take them out . Not very long it will take longer for you to check in and get in the gown and tell your parents you will be fine and have all the nurses flirt with you. Then the surgery will. Plus you can play it up and get good gifts for being so good. Parents love that.
As far as how much weight maybe 5lbs if you are lucky but if you are small it will seem like you have lost a ton of weight but not very much .
Normally they let you have ice cream or popcicles and things like that and they have surgar in them so that almost always keeps your weight up.
Not normaly they will put in a IV sometimes they will do that after they knock you out and sometimes they will do that before. And if they will use the freeze stuff on your skin before they do that you will not notice that at all.
sometimes they do blood work and that is nothing but I will tell you if you move they will keep doing it till they get it . So it is best to hang in there and let them get it on the frist try. Sometimes they will do that when they put the IV in that way you do not feel a thing cause they use the stuff that freezes the skin . Sometimes you have to ask for that. Or tell you mom and dad to ask for it if they do not show up with it when they come in with the stuff.
Because if they ask for it and tell them they are not doing it with out it then they will go and get it and do it that way. I know I did it for years. Stuck a ton of kids and it is so much easier on them if done that way. But there are some who will not use it . But if the parents insisit on it they will. Or have the doctor ask for it done that way. I am sure you mom and dad can do that. That way you do not have to have the pain of that and I know they would much rather you have as little pain as you can.
So now we are down to if they will hurt. I think I answered most of the hurt questions and I hope you have a good safe trip in and out of the hospital.
And I wish you as little pain as can be during your time there. And all the cold popcicles you can hold. Try really hard not to worry. Every time I go to surgery I close my eyes and I tell the good lord if it is meant to be I will see you soon and if not I will see my folks soon so watch over me either way. And he does and so far all of them have been pretty good have not had a great deal of pain and have not had a major problem. So now you know my secret and I tell you that you may use it if you like .
and here is my e-mail Claresia@suddenlink.net
Be sure and let me know how you do. Momma J.
Good Luck little guy I be waiting to hear from you.
