Tonsil removal in a three and a half year old?

My son had adnoid removal and ear tube placement surgery in april. The ENT didnt want to take out his tonsils yet (even though really big but not infected) because she said it would be alot of surgery for a 3 year old. Today we went back for a check up and his tonsils have grown and are close to touching each other. She said he doesnt need to have them removed its up to me. Has anyone ever had this problem, or heard of it and what did you do? He’s my only child and Im a very paranoid mommy sorry.

angee- Try to relax and read on. Tonsils are mainly large lymph glands or lymph nodes in back of the mouth. They swell with any infection. Left alone they get smaller with the years as time passes. Though they may touch in the middle of the throat when you look, they immediately part to allow food and drink through. The main reason to remove tonsils is for repeated infections of the throat which do not respond to antibiotics. The tonsils are valuable parts of the body as they lend protection by filtering out bacteria or viruses that enter into the oral cavity. Be patient. Try not to look at the size of his tonsils even though you are a very concerned and good mom.
well the doctors remove probably hundreds of tonsils a day
its a very simple and easy procedure if he does need them taken out
i would keep an eye on them for sure of course i would seriously consider having them removed if he has had trouble this early with them
my mom didn’t let me get mine taken out when i was little the doctor said i needed them out and she said no
so when i was 25 i decided to get the tonsillectomy done
i am breathing alot better and dont have as many respatory problems
like when the weather turns cold i used to lose my voice for a week but now the cold weather doesn’t bother me
if you want to wait a year or so that may be ok
if you do get it done be sure to have plenty of freezie pops on hand for after or frozen sherbert because he will be in pain for a week or so
but after you will see the difference in how much he feels better
good luck friend take good care of your son and the doctors do that procedure everyday so its like riding a bike for them so no worries about that
Thankfully, my kids have avoided this up to this point. If the tonsils are almost touching, I’d be worried about them interfering with his breathing, especially now if he would get an infection of some kind. Like the other poster said, the doctors who do these operations do them every day, and they are pretty routine in children–it’s when you wait till they’re older that the problems happen. Just had a friend in his 30’s have his tonsils out, and it took almost a month for him to get back on his feet, versus a child at church (I think he was 4 or 5) who only took about a week or so to bounce back.
