Yes they are normal.
If no meds help, then your going to have to have a tonsillectomy
hey ray….
do not listen to samii, you will not need your tonsils out if the penacillin doesnt romove the infection. they will replace the old meds with a different anti-biotic such as enthromicin. but penicillin is a very good anti-biotic, and would be a low chance that it didnt work.
the only time you will need your tonsils out is when the infection reacures, such as you recover from this bout, and 5 weeks later you get it again.
this needs to happen about 5 times until the doctors will start thinking about removing them.
hope i helped, get well soon
btw, i have tonsillitis multiple times, and yes, the sypmtoms at the same. its a horrible thing to have. but once the anti-biotics kick in, then the symptoms will reduce, REMEMBER to take paracetamol and ibprofen to bring down your temperature. and also drink some water,( as much as it hurts.) because you will get dehydrated easily.
you sound like you have a viral infection. and antibitoitcs should only be given whenyou have a bacterial infection like strep.
