Is strep throat and bacterial tonsillitis the same thing?

I was diagnosed with bacterial tonsillitis today so am reading up on the internet about it. Strep throat has the same symptoms and means of treatment .. is it the same thing?

Not always… Strep is a bacteria… but not every bacterial infection in your throat is Strep.
No, they are not the same. Theycan both cause sore throats and be treated with antibiotics, but they are caused be different types of bacteria. Strep can actually be much more dangerous…before penicillin was discovered, strep could acually kill you. Strep is caused by the same bug as scarlet fever, which again, was very very dangerous to have before antibiotics were available. I have had both tonsilitis and strep, and I can tell you that strep actually hurts more and also makes your whole body feel awful, where tonsilitis gives you a heck of a sore throat but that’s about it.
