The procedure is much faster and easier than it used to be. You’re probably in the hospital for about 2 hours maximum. The surgery itself is about 45 minutes long, but your sedated the whole time so you’ll go to sleep with tonsils and wake up without them.
They don’t cut your throat, like some people believe, they only cut your tonsils. It takes about 10 days to heal and it doesn’t really hurt as long as you don’t eat any foods that will cause irrtation. You will be able to talk normally (your voice might change a little though, depending on how big your tonsils were). You just have to eat gentle liquids and soft foods like milk, water, ice cream, smoothies, etc. Just make sure you have absolutely NO citrus or spicy foods. It’s a pretty smooth recovery and it’s probably one of the easiest surgeries you could have, at least in my opinion. It is a good decision to get them removed because you will definitely feel better in the long run.
It’s a day process. You’re in and out within the same day, permitting there are no complications.
I know when I had mine out (quite a few years ago) it hurt. I couldn’t talk for awhile, hurt to eat, hurt to drink, etc. But my child had theirs out not too long ago and was able to talk in the same day, and started eating shortly after (few days).
Start with small, liquidy stuff. Ice pops, ice cream, soup (not too hot though), etc. And depending on your age the doctor may give you some pain killers.
Good luck
