Ok so you will go into hospital, you wont be able to eat anything for about 6 hours, you wont be able to drink for about 2 hours before the operation. When its time you will go down to theatre. Your mum or dad can come with you if you want them to. You will have been told about the procedure by the anaesthetist, probably the day before and our parents will sign a form saying they consent to the procedure with your agreement. You will have a small cannula put into a vein in your hand. (really tiny needle and tube that you will hardly notice)> Then you will have some anaesthetic in the cannula and you will go off to sleep. The op itself takes around 40 minutes. You will wake up and hopefully be pain free as you will have been given pain killers, its likely your throat will be swollen so lots to drink and nice icecream for you. You should be able to start eating soon afterwards. Its a really well tolerated and well done operation, dont worry. Hope thats enough detail. Anything else you need to know ask away. Good luck
It’s nothing big. It takes like, five minutes at most.
I’ve never had a surgery before, either, but my mom has had her tonsils out. She said all she remembers is falling asleep and waking up, thinking nothing happened.
You’ll be fine. :]
You get all the ice cream and popsicles you can eat afterwords.
I think any surgery is scary….I don’t blame you for being frightened.
I think it’s important to identify what your afraid of,,,the not knowing the procedure, or the scariness of the hospital or having something ":taken out"….or all of it……
Do you have someone to talk to , like your folks?
You can look up tonsillectomy if you want to learn about the procedure, but I’m not sure you should,,,I’m not sure that at 13 you could understand it, nor need to.
Having information about what happens when you get to the hospital, how long you will be there, what it will feel like afterward, and when
will you come home would be very reassuring for you. Talk to the folks, or call your doctor. It is your body, and you have a right to ask questions.
Be calm, identify what’s freaking you, and ask questions until you find out what you need to know…..
good luck honey.
my sister had it =] it was nothing at all the surgery took like 10 mins the TOPS! and they tell u all this stiff about waking up frojm ansesiaa… its nothign at all i had to cuase of my ankle… you just feel a little tired like waking up to go to schooll. nothing hurts even lol =]

My sister had surgery and when they put the mask on its like in the movies where the doctors spin around your head. She also said then you just black out. You don’t feel pain, remember anything, and you get ice cream.
