You are definitely not awake. I don’t know of anywhere that you would be awake. If you want to know, you should call a doctor and ask them about it. They do have help and FAQ’s lines for you. But from what I remember, you are not awake, it doesn’t hurt until after you wake up but it just feels like a sore throat/dry throat and they give you amazing pain pills! Also it does not do anything to your voice. I would only recommend you getting them out if you have horrible sore throat and frequent sore throats. Other than that, getting them out is pointless. I had horrible sore throats/strep throats so I HAD to get them out. Even now that they are gone, I still get sore throats and I still get strep throat. They are less painful than before, but I see no point in getting them removed. And you usually stay home for 1-2 days after getting them out!
