I had mine out aged 21.
Hell methods aint changed much in 10o years I can tell you.
Next day no ice cream and jelly for me. I was stood over while i ate dry cornflakes, yup you read right. It's the latest to speed recovery to remove any bits of dried blood and bits hanging and speeds repair of scra tissue. That's what they told me.
I had to have 2 weeks off work and it took me about 9 months to fully regain my strength. Remember too that the body had had a build up of toxins too.
I was given antibiotics for 2 weeks post op.
Yes its painful, eating next day but not not normally and not without pain, took about 3 weeks until not sore.

Worth it ?
Yes

It is best done well before you are 14 ,after this it can be a little more arduous but not much, you will be sore for about a week, maybe two.....You will be on liquids to start with and go on solids when you feel ready. You should not know anything about the operation, you will just wake up in a done condition,as it were.It is only the after effects that are the trouble, but like most discomfort it will soon pass,i was 14 when i had mine ripped out, things were a bit brutal in those days, but you will have no trouble now with the superlative surgeons and techniques and hospital staff,(although nurses are a bit short on the ground as well as being underpaid. My first meal was boiled egg, which i was very grateful for, this was given to me as soon as i woke up,so you could be like me ,very fast on recovery,i was sore for about 5 days.IT VARIES FROM PERSON TO PERSON.

The hospital will give you loads of medicine. When my son had them out they gave him 3 medicines, think 2 were for pain 1 for preventing infection. I had to write down the times for each medicine so i wouldn't get mixed up. He was not great but O.K. Don't worry they will make sure your fine. He didn't take the medication for long either. 1 or 2 weeks and he was to normal. Have heard the older you are the more it's a pain though. But you will be fine. Try comparing it some crappier operation that you really wouldn't like. Good luck, hope you get better really quick.
