How can I avoid tonsil removal surgery?
I am a 27 yr old female and my doctor has stated he think i may wish to have my tonsils taken out due to 5 throat infections this year. I really DO NOT want to have them removed, i am very wary of surgery unless it is to save a life and i know the recovery is pretty bad for adults.
Is there anything i can do to help keep my tonsils healthy and bacteria free?
Thanks!

I don’t know that there is much you can do, short of barricading yourself inside and avoiding all human contact. You’ve obviously been exposed to these infections a lot, and the original purpose of the tonsils is to catch the infection before it gets further into your body. They in effect allow themselves to be infected rather than let it go elsewhere. After so many infections, they "wear out" and can’t do their job anymore, and become a liability. I had mine out when I was 18, an age when they are wary of it, and had no problems. It just felt like a bad case of tonsillitis for a week or so, and then it was fine. I’m 43 now, and have only had strep throat once since then. (You can still get strep, there just aren’t tonsils there to take the infection.) If you are getting that many bouts of tonsillitis, I would seriously consider having them removed, it is much better without them. If your in general good health, it shouldn’t cause any problems, and your doctor can tell you the possible risks, which are present in any surgery.
YES CUT EM OUT
HEY THE DOCTORS RIGHT GET OVER IT
I HAD SIMILAR SITUATION
THERE IS NO WAY THEY ACT LIKE FILTERS
AND YOU WILL BE GLAD TO GET RID OF THEM
A tonsilectomy is extremely safe, easy to do, and recovery is very fast. Trying to stay bacteria free is virtually impossible and you could say goodbye to your social life for ever.
Dont panic about the operation, its much better than getting tonsilitis all the time. In a month it will be all over and your life an return to normal.
There is nothing to worry about. I had my tonsils taken out when i was going into 2nd grade and now i am in 7th. according to the doctor i have tonsillitis
ton·sil·li·tis
Get them out. I was 23 when I got mine out, yes it was bad but I feel better. They can cause cancer of the throat.
