I had my tonsils taken out when I was 18, so believe me…I know what your daughter is experiencing! The older you are the more it hurts, small children bounce back alot quicker!
They did not use stitches for mine, so I’m going to assume that they don’t do that at all anymore. What they did for mine was use a laser. I had both my tonsils and adenoids removed, too.
She really needs to try eating something, as this will help speed up the recovery process, but I definitely would NOT recommend spaghetti & meatballs. Your doctor should have gone over this with you, but she should not consume anything that will inflame the area, i.e. spicy foods (which spaghetti sauce is very acidic due to the tomatoes).
I requested the smoothies from Sonic alot and also mashed potatoes are great because they’re soft. My mom made me chicken broth, but I preferred the mashed potatoes instead, just because the chicken broth even burned a little bit.
Sorry I’ve written so much, but I really hope that helps you out! =)
i had both taken out too and my mom and dad said they "froze" them and cut em out. i never had to go back for stich removel so i wanna know too lol. i was 7 or 8 at the time. i know it hurt like a s o b for like almost a month, all i could eat was babyfood and mashed potatos and it hurt like hell even with that. give my beat to yer daughter i know whats shes goin thru. lol not fun!
No, they don’t. They cauterize the stumps to stop the bleeding. I have no doubt her throat hurts really badly and she won’t want to eat or drink. Trouble is, that dries out the throat and just makes the pain even worse. The more she drinks, and the moister she keeps her throat the less it will hurt. I ran around this post with my son, when he had his tonsils out at age 9. He didn’t even want to swallow his own spit. If she can sip small bits of very cold liquids it will help to start with. Tell her the option is to get dehydrated and have to return to the hospital. There they will start an IV to get fluids into her, and then there will be one very stern nurse forcing the fluids down her at all hours. At this point, she won’t want to eat, and to be honest- things like spaghetti and chicken noodle soup will just burn. Best bets are frozen pops, frozen yogurt, and jello, ice cubes- make them out of flavored water, lollipops to stick in her mouth, and hard candy. Sometimes you just have to get parent ugly and force the issue- my sympathies to you both.
nope
you just scrape ‘em out – lots of bleeding.
that’s why you cannot eat hard foods afterward.
pretty barbaric, eh? but that’s how it’s done
