Tonsillitis is a medical term for red and swollen tonsils. It can be caused by viral and bacterial infections. You need to be tested for strep (bacterial ) and mono (viral) if ur infection is Bacterial in nature then antibiotics will be prescribwed, but if it is Viral in nature thne antibiotics will not be prescribed.
The only effective way to get rid of tonsilitis is to have your tonsils taken out. No big deal anymore.
If your tonsilitis is caused by bacteria, you will need to take antibiotics to get rid of the infection. Tonsilitis caused by a virus should go away on its own. Doctors used to remove tonsils at the first sign of trouble. These days, they don’t usually remove tonsils unless you have repeated infections.
could be viral or bacterial. Do you have a fever/rash, body aches,? if you can’t swallow your saliva, should consider urgent care visit. Can you suck on popcicles, eat soft foods, or drink a milkshake, pudding? etc. Are you getting dehydrated, that your urine is infrequent or getting darker yellow? You could go to ER, any trouble breathing? I wouldn’t stay home with this, sounds awful.
