My son had his tonsils out 3 weeks ago, and back in school he has caught a terrible cold. His coughing hurts his throat. Now my question is, is there a chance this will damage his healing throat? Should I keep hin home from school? Should I take him to the doctor? There’s no fever, just coughing, wherzing, and runny nose.

his throat should be pretty much healed if not completely, hes young so his healing factors are very high. Patients in their 50’s are discharged from the hospital 1 day after a removal of their appendix another vestigial (useless organ). As a result, your tonsils wont be affecting his well being since it was essentialyl useless to start with. You should make him stay home for a day or two so he doesnt infect the other kids, or just send him to school if you dont really care all that much. However, IF you see signs of infection : ie … pain, chills, fever, sweating, (redness in throat, swelling in his throat) tiredness. He should see a doctor
