Can tonsils become swollen due to a sinus infection?
About 3 days ago I started getting a sinus infection. I had a short mild fever and an all around case of the yucks. Then yesterday morning I had a large amount of bloody/rusty colored drainage come out of one of my sinus cavities. Since then my nose has not bothered me and any mucous coming out of my sinuses has been a lot clearer…so I am guessing that the infection is gone. Now, though I have swollen tonsils (not that swollen) with a couple of white patches on them (I’ve had the same small two white patches for two days, so they don’t look to be getting any worse). I know that your tonsils fight off infection, could this be the reason they are slightly swollen? Are they fighting off my previous sinus infection? I’m trying to avoid going to the doctor here because I don’t currently have any health insurance. I no longer have a fever, in fact, I feel just fine except for these slightly swollen tonsils and sore throat.

Yes, tonsils could be swollen because of the sinusitis. You should take analgesic+anti-inflammatory( ibuprofen tablets for example) to get better. If white patches on the tonsils continue, esp when a fever comes, go and seek medical help cause your condition needs to be examined physically.
Your tonsils can definitely become inflammed/swollen due to a sinus infection. You have what’s called post-nasal drip on your tonsils from your nose, and that irritates them and makes them swollen, as well as a immune response. HOWEVER, watch the white patches, and if you develop a fever with the white patches, go to the doc, it may be strep.
