any inormation on requesting a laser tonsillectomy?
Although there is a decent amount of information on the internet regarding the actual procedure of a laser tonsillectomy, I wondered if anyone had any information on how I would go about actually requesting this type of treatment and where it could be done, as it sounds like it could be preferable to a standard tonsillectomy. I suffer from "tonsil stones" and I have concluded that it affects my everyday life enough, to justify some sort of tonsillectomy. I have been to my GP who referred me to the ENT clinic at my local hospital. The specialist there told me he had not heard of any sort of laser treatment for this condition, but he could offer me the standard tonsillectomy. I declined in the hope that I could find somewhere that could carry out the laser treatment on the NHS. Is there any information you could give me that you think might help?

well i live in the US and i know that ENTs do the laser procedure here. i would call around to different ENTs that are in your local area. the one you saw may not do it but thats not to say another ENT in your are doesn’t do it.
i just got my tonsils out the standard way 5 weeks ago due to tonsil stones and i’m glad i did it.
the recovery wasn’t too bad. (obviously i’d never want to go through it again but for what it was i think i handled it well) the first couple days it was just like i had a slightly sore throat. then the next few days the pain was pretty bad. but after that it got beter again and after 10 days (which is the standard recovery time) i was pretty much back to normal.
if you can’t find anyone that does it the new way then i would just do it the older way and when all is said and done you’ll be much happier that your tonsils are gone.
