The best thing to do is to take very small sips of warm liquids, avoid carbonated beverages, or if ice works better, use ice to &quot;freeze&quot; your throat and take your pain meds round the clock, not just when the pain is unbearable.  If you let the pain get out of control, it is much harder to keep under control.
The blackness is from the electro cautery with which they stopped the bleeding.  The white stuff is mucus. 
It takes adults about two weeks or so to get over a tonsillectomy</description>
