After having tonsil surgery, How can I deal with the PAIN?
Last week I got the surgery done and ever since then I feel like crap. I got my tonsils removed AND something in my nose. Blood clots were all up in my nose and I was bleeding all the time. Luckily my doctor kinda fixed that. Now I’m just dealing with the sharp pain in my throat. What should I do? It’s like all white back there, with hints of black stuff. Like when I swallow, it hurts and same thing when I drink liquids. When I drink stuff, the pain will last for a good 30 sec. I usually gather up my saliva and swallow at the same time and/or spit it in a cup.
I mean, is this normal? Should this be happening? How long will the process take?

Yes, unfortunately. Adults having their tonsils removed have a much rougher time than kids do. The best thing to do is to take very small sips of warm liquids, avoid carbonated beverages, or if ice works better, use ice to "freeze" your throat and take your pain meds round the clock, not just when the pain is unbearable. If you let the pain get out of control, it is much harder to keep under control.
The blackness is from the electro cautery with which they stopped the bleeding. The white stuff is mucus.
It takes adults about two weeks or so to get over a tonsillectomy
