You sure are worrying a lot. I do not mean this as an insult, but 4 year olds get through this. They have little understanding about coping with things.

It is extremely unlikely that you will wake up during the surgery. It is very short. Those stories about waking up refer to prolonged surgeries. It is very rare then.

Death is extremely unlikely. Riding in a car is more dangerous.

You will have a sore throat. There will be pain meds prescribed.

All the instruments are scrubbed and sterilized by steam under pressure. No chance of AIDS.

You are not supposed to eat before the surgery to reduce the possibility of vomiting during the procedure. You could get pneumonia from aspirating. That would be treated with antibiotics. A healthy 17 year old would not die from it in this modern age.

I am a RN. I have dealt with a lot of little kids and a few adults post tonsillectomy.

They say do not eat after midnight due to you're on you back during surgery and if you happen to throw up...you will choke to death, plus you have a tube in your mouth...soooo they want you to have a empty stomach. AIDS will not happen to you if you have your tonsils taken out!

I had my tonsils taken out last february. Youre sedated the whole time, and wont feel a thing. But your throat will be sore for the next few days. And you cant eat any solid foods for risk of tearing the healing scabs on your tonsils. Its not that bad really, just a bit sore, like strep throat.
