3 yr olds – Tonsil & Adenoids removed – ear infections?
Does any one WITHOUT doubt know if they will cancel the surgery to have adenoids & tonsils removed if the child has an ear infection with in 5 days of surgery date?
My girls are scheduled for the surgery this Thursday the 22nd – and I just found out this morning they both have ear infections.
I am looking for a concrete answer – someone that has dealt with the same exact issue – not guesses or assumptions .
Thanks bunches!

T&A surgery is not cancelled for ear infections–only would be cancelled if your child has fever or other serious illness. Your children’s ear infections are actually very likely because the adenoid tissue is so enlarged that it is blocking their eustachian tubes and the ears cannot drain. If they have had recurrent infections before, you should inquire as to whether the ENT recommends PE tubes in their ears be done while they are under anesthesia. Otherwise, the ENT may opt to do a myringotomy–where they make a small cut in the eardrum to aspirate the fluid but do not insert a tube.
My daughters surgery was canceled 5 times. They do a blood test before the surgery and if the white count is up indicating infection, they cancel.
My daughter is now 34 and still has tonsils. we finally gave up.
Yes, I think they will…contact your surgeon.
My daughter had her removed last August she was 8 ..They did a pre op assessment on her a few weeks before and asked about illnesses …we were told to ring and let them know of any problems in the mean time so i would ring them a few days before depending on how your girls are if they are running a fever then yes it will be cancelled because of the anaesthesia
I worked for an ENT surgical office and as long as they get antibiotics and have no fevers the day of the surgery they will proceed.
Hope they feel better soon, the T & A should help w/ear infections.
